HBW Report: Top 10 Florida Home Builders – November 2015

Florida continues to hold steady in residential construction as HBW has nearly 4,000 new permits on record for Florida during the month of November, adding some familiar and new home builders to the monthly Top 10.

Last week, we reviewed the highs and lows in residential construction throughout Florida during the month of November (see Florida Residential Building Review – November 2015).  This week, we are focusing on our monthly review of the Top 10 Home Builders who are leading each area from Miami to Jacksonville and everything in between.

D.R. Horton led residential construction statewide, holding the #1 spot in 2 out of 5 areas reviewed; the leading company also has more than 420 housing starts on file for the month.  That being stated, D.R. Horton was in good company, as Lennar Homes, GL Homes and Pulte Homes also took #1 spots in specific regions.  Here is a look at the leading home builders by region:

Orlando

In the Orlando area, D.R. Horton jumped two spots and was up 7% in starts in comparison to October, with 145 total permits on record and a total value of nearly $43.4 million.  Although not on the Top 10 list in October, Ashton Orlando Residential joined the leaderboard in the #2 spot with 92 total new permits and approximately $21.5 million in value.  In the third spot for the month, Lennar Homes held strong with 76 housing starts and more than $20.1 million in total value.

Southwest Florida

Pulte Homes continued to lead the southwestern portion of Florida for its third consecutive month, with 90 housing starts and more than $29 million in total value. In the second spot, GL Homes made an impressive jump from #6 in October and more than doubled its total starts with 80 permits on record and a total value in excess of $26.6 million. Although Neal Communities dropped slightly from #2 in October to #3 in November, it maintained a spot in the Top 3 with 68 starts and a total value of $12.7 million.

Tampa

For a second month, Lennar Homes led the Tampa area with 119 starts and more than $27.8 million in total value. Also maintaining its position from October, The Villages of Lake Sumter was #2 for the month with 93 new residential permits on record and a total value of nearly $31.5 million (highest value in the area). D.R. Horton maintained the third spot but increased total starts by 65% since October, with 89 starts and more than $18.5 million in total value.

Jacksonville

For several months, D.R. Horton has and continues to hold the #1 spot for total starts in Jacksonville.  According to the HBW database, the leading builder was up 48% in total permits (117 permits) since October and carried a total value of nearly $18.2 million. Moving up from #4 to the second spot, Lennar Homes had 63 new permits on file for the month and more than $15 million in total value.  Dream Finders Construction, Inc. dropped from #2 in October to #3 in November, still holding strong with 53 starts and nearly $14 million in total value.

Southeast Florida

Although residential construction totals dropped in the southeast portion Florida since October, GL Homes jumped up one spot from October to November, dominating the region with 73 starts and nearly $25 million in total value.  Lennar Homes maintained the #2 spot with 20 new permits on file and a total value exceeding $9.1 million.  D.R. Horton jumped two spots to #3 with 15 starts and a total value of more than $5.3 million.
