A review of new residential construction permit data on record with HBW for Florida during the month of April 2022
Last month, the Sunshine State demonstrated a 10 percent month-over-month increase in new home construction – Across the five major regions of Florida (Southwest, Tampa, Jacksonville, Orlando, Southeast) there were more than 8,970 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $2.5 billion during the month of April 2022. Out of the five regions reviewed, the southwestern region (2,770 permits) carried the greatest volume of new residential construction, while the highest average value of construction could be found in the southeastern region of the state (average value: $317,557).
Here is a look at the latest permit data for new home construction in Florida by region, inclusive of total permits, construction values, and leading counties for the month of April:
Southwest
As previously mentioned, the southwestern region of Florida held the greatest amount of new home construction activity last month, having 2,770 new permits with a total construction value of more than $734 million. The average value of new home construction landed on the lower end of the scale (average value: $265,014) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and the majority of permits originated from the counties of Lee (780 permits) and Manatee (661 permits).
Tampa
Last month, there were nearly 2,410 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $696.5 million on record for the Tampa area. The average value of new home construction was $289,237, and nearly 65 percent of all new permits originated from the counties of Polk (883 permits) and Hillsborough (638 permits).
Orlando
In Orlando, there were approximately 1,530 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $477 million last month. The average value of new home construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $311,661) in comparison to the other regions reviewed, and the counties with the greatest concentration of new residential construction activity for the one-month period were Osceola (343 permits) and Orange (332 permits).
Jacksonville
In the Jacksonville area, there were more than 1,515 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $395 million on record with HBW last month. The average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $260,516) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and the majority of all new permits originated from the counties of St. Johns (554 permits) and Duval (430 permits).
Southeast
Last month, there were 745 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $237 million in the southeastern region of Florida. As previously noted, the average value of new home construction was highest in the southeast (average value: $317,557) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and the county with the greatest amount of new home construction activity for the one-month period was St. Lucie (309 permits).
