Florida Residential Construction Review – July 2022

A review of new permit data on record with HBW for new home construction in Florida during the month of July

Based on HBW’s latest construction data reports, there were approximately 7,450 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $2.3 billion added to the HBW database for Florida during the month of July.  Out of the five regions included in the reports (Southwest, Tampa, Southeast, Orlando, Jacksonville), the greatest concentration of new permitting activity could be found in the southwestern region of the state (2,181 permits), while the highest average value of new home construction could be found in the Orlando area (average value: $324,524).

Here is a closer look at the total permits, average value of projects and leading counties for new home construction in Florida during the month of July 2022:

Southwest

As previously noted, the southwestern region of Florida carried the greatest volume of new residential construction activity last month, having 2,181 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $693 million.  The average value of new construction projects landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $317,663) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and just about 60 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of Lee (721 permits) and Sarasota (572 permits).

Tampa

Not far behind the southwestern region, the Tampa area ranked #2 for new home construction last month, having 2,123 new permits with a total value of nearly $647 million on record with HBW.  The average value of new residential construction was $304,689, and approximately 58 percent of all new residential construction activity took place in the two counties of Polk (700 permits) and Pasco (531 permits).

Orlando

In Orlando, there were nearly 1,300 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $421 million on record with HBW for the month of July. As previously noted, the average value of new home construction was highest in the Orlando area (average value: $324,524) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly half of all new permits originated from the two counties of Brevard (373 permits) and Orange (240 permits).

Jacksonville

Last month, there were approximately 1,050 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $246.3 million added to the HBW database for the Jacksonville area.  In comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, the average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $235,028), and just about 64 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Johns (336 permits) and Duval (332 permits).

Southeast

In the Southeast, there were approximately 800 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $256 million added to the HBW database last month.  The average value of new home construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $320,234) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and more than half of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Lucie (384 permits) and Palm Beach (176 permits).
