Last month, there were nearly 4,750 new residential construction permits added to the HBW database for Florida. Out of the five major regions (Orlando, Tampa, Jacksonville, Southeast and Southwest), Orlando had the most housing starts on file with 1,071 new permits and nearly $323.5M in construction value for the one-month period. Tampa and the southwest region were right up there with Orlando having 1,055 and 1,068 housing starts in each area respectively.
When focusing on the builders with the most new permitting activity across the Sunshine State, Lennar Homes and D.R. Horton were standouts as they were ranked in the top three for total housing starts in every region reviewed.

Orlando
As previously mentioned, Orlando just made the top spot for total housing starts on file with HBW in January. There were more than 150 active builders in the area responsible for 1,071 housing starts with a total construction value of nearly $323.5M. Mattamy Homes led with over 100 starts on file, closely followed by Lennar Homes and D.R. Horton:

Southwest Florida
Last month, Southwest Florida ranked second in the HBW database for total housing starts. There were 1,068 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $275M, and the highest concentration of new home construction took place in Lee County (362 permits). Out of the 195 active builders in the area, Lennar Homes proved to be a leading builder with 173 new residential construction permits, followed by Pulte Homes (160 permits) and D.R. Horton (92 permits).

Tampa
Tampa ranked a close third with 1,055 housing starts and a total construction value in excess of $295.3M last month. The highest concentration of new residential construction could be found in Hillsborough County (398 permits), and out of the 170+ active builders, Lennar Homes ranked #1 for total housing starts (178 permits).

Jacksonville:
Last month, Jacksonville had a strong month for residential construction having 918 housing starts with a total value of nearly $226M. St. Johns County had the highest concentration of new home building activity (358 permits), and out of the 140+ active builders in the area, D.R. Horton ranked #1 for total housing starts (136 permits).

Southeast Florida
Moving to the southeast region of the state, there were approximately 625 housing starts with a total construction value of nearly $170M on file for the one-month period. Higher concentrations of new permitting activity could be found in counties including Miami-Dade (179 permits) and St. Lucie (164 permits). Out of the 175+ active builders in the area, D.R. Horton took top spot with 100 housing starts.
