The latest construction data reports for new home construction in Texas are posted and available through HBW. Based on those reports, there were 7,515 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $2 billion added to the HBW database last month for the Lone Star State (Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio); this reflects a 33 percent month-over-month increase in new residential construction.
Out of the four metro areas reviewed, the area with the greatest amount of new construction activity was Houston; with 3,070 new permits on record and a total construction value of nearly $734 million, Houston has demonstrated a month-over-month increase in new home construction of approximately 42 percent.
Not far behind Houston, Dallas ranked second highest for new home construction activity, having 2,704 new permits on record for the one-month period, followed by Austin (1,043 permits) and San Antonio (698 permits).
When looking at the average value of new home construction, Austin has continued its somewhat recent lead as it held an average value of more than $333k for new residential construction, followed by Dallas with an average construction value of approximately $287k.
Out of the hundreds of active home builders with new permits on record with HBW last month, D.R. Horton and Lennar Homes continued to hold major power in the market, having 1,139 and 696 new permits on record respectively. Other top home builders with higher concentrations of new permitting activity throughout the state include KB Homes (239 permits) and Pulte Homes (253 permits).

An overview of the latest permit data for new swimming pool construction in Texas during the month of August 2022
On a regular basis, HBW reviews the latest permit data available from the HBW database, providing readers insight into the valuable information and stats that can be gained from reports available to HBW subscribers. Not only does this information provide readers with a sneak peek into the market from a monthly, quarterly, and annual perspective, but it also allows users to understand patterns in the market, as well as identify prospects and opportunities for expanding their businesses.
Today, we are looking specifically at the latest data on new swimming pool construction in the four major metro areas of Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio) during the month of August. Last month, there were 1,175 new swimming pool construction permits with a total value of approximately $68.4 million added to the HBW database for the Lone Star State. Out of the four regions reviewed, the greatest concentration of new pool construction could be found in Dallas (523 permits), while the highest average value of new swimming pool construction could be found in Houston (average value: $73,364).

Last month, there were 2,460 new swimming pool permits added to the HBW database for the Sunshine State. Out of the five regions reviewed (Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Southwest, Southeast), the southwestern region (758 permits) carried the greatest amount of new swimming pool construction activity, while the highest average value of construction could be found in Jacksonville (average value: $81,780).

Southwest
As previously noted, the southwestern region of Florida held the highest volume of new swimming pool construction last month, having nearly 760 new permits with a total construction value of approximately $47.4 million added to the HBW database. The average value of new permits in the southwest landed on the lower end of the spectrum (average value: $62,536) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and well more than half of all new construction activity took place in the counties of Lee (249 permits) and Collier (163 permits).

The average value of new swimming pool construction was lowest in the southeast (average value: $61,723) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and the bulk of all new permits originated from the counties of Palm Beach (222 permits) and Miami-Dade (164 permits).

Based on HBW’s latest construction data reports, there were approximately 7,450 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $2.3 billion added to the HBW database for Florida during the month of July. Out of the five regions included in the reports (Southwest, Tampa, Southeast, Orlando, Jacksonville), the greatest concentration of new permitting activity could be found in the southwestern region of the state (2,181 permits), while the highest average value of new home construction could be found in the Orlando area (average value: $324,524).

Southwest
As previously noted, the southwestern region of Florida carried the greatest volume of new residential construction activity last month, having 2,181 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $693 million. The average value of new construction projects landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $317,663) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and just about 60 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of Lee (721 permits) and Sarasota (572 permits).
Tampa
Not far behind the southwestern region, the Tampa area ranked #2 for new home construction last month, having 2,123 new permits with a total value of nearly $647 million on record with HBW. The average value of new residential construction was $304,689, and approximately 58 percent of all new residential construction activity took place in the two counties of Polk (700 permits) and Pasco (531 permits).
Orlando
In Orlando, there were nearly 1,300 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $421 million on record with HBW for the month of July. As previously noted, the average value of new home construction was highest in the Orlando area (average value: $324,524) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly half of all new permits originated from the two counties of Brevard (373 permits) and Orange (240 permits).
Jacksonville
Last month, there were approximately 1,050 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $246.3 million added to the HBW database for the Jacksonville area. In comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, the average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $235,028), and just about 64 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Johns (336 permits) and Duval (332 permits).
Southeast
In the Southeast, there were approximately 800 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $256 million added to the HBW database last month. The average value of new home construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $320,234) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and more than half of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Lucie (384 permits) and Palm Beach (176 permits).

Based on HBW’s latest Construction Data Reports, there were approximately 7,450 new residential construction permits added to the HBW database for Florida during the month of July. Out of the hundreds of contractors with new permits on record last month, there were a few that carried approximately 30 percent of all new construction activity in the Sunshine State, and those builders are as follows:

Last month, there were approximately 5,650 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $1.5 billion added to the HBW database for Texas. Out of the four metro areas reviewed, Houston (2,169 permits) carried the greatest concentration of new permits, while the highest average value of new construction projects could be found in Austin (average value: $307,038).
Here is a closer look at the total permits, average value of construction and leading counties for new home construction in each of the four major metro regions of the Lone Star State during the month of July:
Houston
As noted above, Houston carried the highest concentration of new home construction activity last month as there were 2,169 new permits with a total value of $573 million added to the HBW database. The average value of new home construction was $264,187, and the majority of all new permits originated from the two counties of Montgomery (879 permits) and Harris (734 permits).
Dallas
Not far behind Houston, in Dallas there were nearly 1,960 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $545 million added to the HBW database last month. The average value of new home construction landed mid-range (average value: $278,354) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and just over half of all new construction activity took place in the counties of Tarrant (596 permits) and Collin (474 permits).
Austin
In Austin, there were more than 1,055 new residential construction permits with a total value of $324.2 million on record last month. The average value of new home construction was highest in Austin (average value: $307,038) in comparison to other areas reviewed, and nearly 70 percent of all new permits originated from Travis County where there were 730 new permits on record for the one-month period.
San Antonio
Last month, there were more than 465 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $113.3 million added to the HBW database for the San Antonio area. The average value of new home construction was lowest in San Antonio (average value: $243,024) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and the bulk of all new construction took place in Bexar County (319 permits).

According to HBW’s latest construction data reports for Texas, there were approximately 5,650 new residential construction permits added to the HBW database last month. And while we will go into more detail on new permit data on record for Texas in upcoming posts, today we are using the reports to identify the leading home builders in each of the four major metro areas of Texas (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio). For our purposes, “top home builders” are defined based on two factors: The total number of new residential construction permits pulled for a given period (July 2022); and the total construction value of permits on record for each home builder.
Across the state, D.R. Horton continues to lead the market, having nearly 730 new residential construction permits on record with HBW last month. Next in line, Lennar Homes ranked second, having approximately 541 new permits on record last month.
