Florida Residential Construction Review – June 2021

An HBW report on the latest permit data for new residential construction in Florida during the month of June 2021

Based on the latest construction data reports from HBW, there were 8,365 housing starts with a total construction value in excess of $2.25 billion in Florida last month. Out of the five Florida regions covered in the reports (Tampa, Southwest, Orlando, Southeast, Jacksonville), the greatest concentration of new home construction could be found in the southwestern region of the state (2,411 permits), while the highest average value of new residential construction projects took place in the southeastern region (average value: $328,873).

Here is a detailed view of new residential construction permit data by Florida region during the month of June 2021:

Southwest

The southwest region ranked #1 in Florida for new home construction, having 2,411 housing starts with a total construction value of $597.5 million on record last month.  The average value of new home construction was $247,841, and more than half of all new permits originated from the counties of Lee (750 permits) and Manatee (595 permits).

Out of the nearly 315 contractors with new home construction activity on record in the southwest last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Jacksonville

In Jacksonville, there were 1,890 housing starts with a total construction value of nearly $430 million on record for the month of June.  The average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $227,499) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and out of the six counties that make up the area, nearly 70 percent of all new home construction took place in the two counties of Duval and St. Johns where there were 655 and 643 new permits respectively.

Out of the approximately 150 contractors with new home construction activity on record in Jacksonville last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Tampa

In Tampa, there were 1,816 housing starts with a total construction value of approximately $500 million last month.  The average value of new home construction was $275,141, and from the six counties that make up the area, more than 70 percent of all new home construction activity took place in the two counties of Pasco (682 permits) and Polk (623 permits).

Out of the 215 contractors with new home construction activity on record in the Tampa area last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Orlando

Last month, there were more than 1,250 housing starts with a total construction value of approximately $400 million on record for the Orlando area.  The average value of new home construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $319,096) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly half of all new permits originated from the counties of Orange (338 permits) and Lake (259 permits).

Out of the more than 160 home builders with new construction activity on record in Orlando last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Southeast

In the southeastern region of Florida, there were nearly 1,000 housing starts with a total construction value in excess of $327 million on record last month.  As previously noted, the average value of new home construction was highest in the southeast (average value: $328,873) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and just over 70 percent of all new home construction activity took place in the two counties of St. Lucie (444 permits) and Palm Beach (258 permits).

Out of the 140 home builders with new construction activity on record in the southeast region of Florida last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:
