Florida Home Construction Review – July 2024

Based on the latest HBW reports, there were approximately 6,350 new residential construction permits with a total construction value of nearly $2 billion added to the HBW database for Florida last month.  Out of the five regions included in the reports (Southwest, Tampa, Southeast, Orlando, Jacksonville), the greatest concentration of new permitting activity could be found in the southwestern region of the state (1,887 permits), while the highest average value of new permits could be found in the Orlando area (average value: $377,437).

Here is a closer look at the total permits, average value of projects and leading counties for new home construction in Florida during the month of July:

Southwest

As previously noted, the southwestern region of Florida carried the highest volume of new residential construction permits last month, having 1,887 new permits with a total construction value of approximately $549 million.  The average value of new construction projects landed on the lower end of the spectrum (average value: $290,890) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and just about 65 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of Lee (747 permits) and Sarasota (472 permits).

Tampa

Last month, Tampa ranked #2 for new home construction, having 1,367 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $414 million on record with HBW.  The average value of new residential construction was $302,609, and approximately 70 percent of all new permitting activity originated from the two counties of Polk and Hillsborough where there were 620 and 311 new permits respectively for the one-month period.

Orlando

In Orlando, there were more than 1,340 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $506 million on record with HBW for the month of July. The average value of new home construction was highest in the Orlando area (average value: $377,437) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and close to half of all new permits originated from the two counties of Brevard (358 permits) and Lake (269 permits).

Jacksonville

Last month, there were more than 1,110 new residential construction permits with a total value of $277.4 million added to the HBW database for the Jacksonville area.  In comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, the average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $249,498), and nearly 80 percent of all new permits originated from the two counties of Duval (489 permits) and St. Johns (382 permits).

Southeast

In the southeastern region of Florida, there were just over 640 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $233 million on record last month.  The average value of new home construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum in the southeast (average value: $363,773) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and the majority of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Lucie (268 permits) and Palm Beach (159 permits).
