A summary of permit data for new home construction in Texas during the month of April

Based on HBW’s latest construction data reports, there were approximately 7,200 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $2.1B added to the HBW database for Texas last month.  Out of the four metro areas reviewed (Dallas, Houston, Austin, San Antonio), the greatest concentration of new permits could be found in Houston (3,861 permits), while the highest average value of new construction could be found in Austin (average value: $380,257).

Here is a closer look at the total permits, construction values and leading counties for new home construction in Texas during the month of April 2023:

Houston

Last month, Houston ranked #1 for residential construction having 3,861 new permits with a total value of nearly $992M on record with HBW.  The average value of new residential construction was $256,897, and nearly half of all new permits originated from Harris County (1,803 permits).

Dallas

Dallas ranked #2 for new residential construction last month, having 2,211 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $743M on record for the one-month period. The average value of construction was $336,234, and more than half of all new permits originated from the counties of Collin (593 permits) and Tarrant (692 permits).

Austin

In Austin, there were approximately 590 new residential construction permits with a total value of $224M on record last month.  The average value of new home construction was highest in Austin (average value: $380,257) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and nearly half of all new construction took place in Travis County (277 permits).

San Antonio

Last month, there were approximately 540 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $117.5M in San Antonio.  The average value of new home construction lowest in San Antonio (average value: $218,308) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and the bulk of construction took place in Bexar County where there were 412 new permits on record for the one-month period.
