Based on HBW’s latest construction data reports, there were more than 6,065 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $1.9 billion added to the HBW database for the Lone Star State last month; this reflects close to an 11 percent month-over-month decrease in new home construction. 

Out of the four major metro areas reviewed, Houston carried the greatest volume of new residential construction activity (3,100 permits), while the highest average value of new home construction could be found in Dallas (average value: $370,564).

Here is a closer look at the total permits, average value of new construction projects and leading counties for new home construction in the four major metro regions of Texas last month:

Houston

As previously noted, the Houston area carried the greatest volume of housing starts out of the four Texas regions reviewed, having 3,100 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $892 million.  The average value of new home construction in Houston landed on the lower end of the spectrum (average value: $287,816) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and nearly half of all new permits originated from Harris County where there were 1,435 new permits on record with HBW for the one-month period.

Dallas

Dallas ranked #2 for new home construction last month, having more than 1,760 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $653 million.  The average value of new residential construction projects was highest in Dallas (average value: $370,564) in comparison to other Texas regions reviewed, and the bulk of new permitting activity took place in the two counties of Collin (633 permits) and Denton (348 permits).

San Antonio

Last month, there were approximately 680 new residential construction permits with a total value of $162 million in the San Antonio area.  The average value of new home construction was lowest in San Antonio (average value: $238,928) in comparison to other areas reviewed, and the majority of all new residential construction took place in Bexar County (440 permits).

Austin

In Austin, there were nearly 530 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $160 million added to the HBW database last month.  The average value of new home construction was $302,454, and the bulk of new home construction activity took place in the counties of Travis (247 permits) and Williamson (174 permits).
