A review of permit data on record with HBW for new swimming pool construction in the Sunshine State during the month of December 2020
Last month, Florida exhibited a 17 percent month-over-month decrease in new swimming pool construction, resulting in more than 2,393 permits with a total value of $116.2 million added to the HBW database. Out of the five major regions reviewed (Southwest, Tampa, Orlando, Southeast, Jacksonville), the greatest concentration of new swimming pool construction could be found in the southwestern region where there 684 new permits for the one-month period. When looking for the highest average value of new swimming pool construction, Jacksonville was a standout having an average value of new swimming pool permits in excess of nearly $61,300.
Here is a closer look at the total permits, construction values and leading counties for new swimming pool construction activity in Florida during the month of December 2020:
Southwest
As previously mentioned, the greatest concentration of new swimming pool construction permits originated from the southwestern region of Florida, where there were 684 pool starts with a total construction value in excess of $29.5 million. The average value of new pool construction was lowest in the southwest (average value: $43,170) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly half of all new construction took place in the counties of Lee (177 permits) and Sarasota (154 permits).
Tampa
In Tampa, there were 580 pool starts with a total construction value in excess of $31.7 million last month. The average value of new pool construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum in Tampa (average value: $54,666) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and more than half of all new permits originated from the counties of Pasco (146 permits) and Hillsborough (144 permits).
Southeast
The southeastern region of Florida ranked #3 for new swimming pool construction last month, having more than 530 new permits with a total construction value in excess of $23.5 million on record with HBW. The average value of new pool construction landed on the lower end of the spectrum in the southeast (average value: $44,341) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and more than half of all new permits originated from the counties of Palm Beach (220 permits) and Miami-Dade (151 permits).
Orlando
Last month, there were 360 new swimming pool permits with a total construction value in excess of $16.8 million added to the HBW database for the Orlando area. The average value of new pool construction was $46,778, and the majority of all new construction activity took place in the two counties of Orange (137 permits) and Brevard (90 permits).
Jacksonville
In the Jacksonville area, there were nearly 240 pool starts with a total construction value of approximately $14.6 million during the month of December. The average value of new swimming pool construction was highest in Jacksonville (average value: $61,276) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly half of all new permits originated from St. Johns County (113 permits).
