A summary of permit data for new residential construction in Florida during the month of September
Earlier this week, we reported on the top home builders across Florida and noted that during the month of September there were more than 6,315 new residential construction permits added to the HBW database for the Sunshine State. Today, we will utilize the same construction data reports to review new home construction activity and permit data collected from the five major regions of Florida (Southwest, Tampa, Orlando, Southeast, Jacksonville) during the month of September.
Out of the five Florida regions reviewed, the greatest concentration of new residential construction took place in the southwestern region where there were 1,680 new permits on record with HBW for the one-month period, while the highest average value of new home construction could be found in the Southeast (average value: $371,359).
Here is a summary of the latest permit data on record for new home construction in each major region of Florida last month:
Southwest
As noted above, the greatest concentration of new home construction could be found in the southwestern region of Florida last month where there were 1,680 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $562.5 million. The average value of new home construction was $334,805, and more than half of all new permits originated from the two counties of Lee (598 permits) and Charlotte (342 permits).
Tampa
Not far behind the southwest, the Tampa area ranked #2 for new home construction, having 1,437 new permits with a total construction value of approximately $440 million on record last month. The average value of new residential construction projects was $306,075, and the majority of new permits originated from the counties of Hillsborough (430 permits) and Pasco (387 permits).
Orlando
In Orlando, there were 1,223 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $390 million added to the HBW database last month. The average value of new home construction was $319,030, and nearly half of all new construction activity took place in the two counties of Brevard (349 permits) and Orange (249 permits).
Jacksonville
Last month, there were 1,193 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $274 million on record for Jacksonville. The average value of new home construction was lowest in Jacksonville (average value: $229,392) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and nearly 75 percent of all new construction activity took place in the two counties of St. Johns (443 permits) and Duval (415 permits).
Southeast
For the southeastern region of Florida, there were approximately 785 new residential construction permits with a total value of $290.8 million added to the HBW database last month. The average value of new home construction was highest in the Southeast (average value: $371,359) in comparison to other regions reviewed, and the bulk of all new permits originated from the two counties of St. Lucie (302 permits) and Palm Beach (217 permits).
