Last month, there were approximately 6,970 new residential construction permits with a total value of nearly $2 billion added to the HBW database for the Lone Star State. Out of the four major metropolitan areas reviewed (Houston, Dallas, Austin, San Antonio), Houston ranked #1 for total new residential construction permits (3,277 permits) on record for the one-month period, while Austin held the highest average value of new home construction (average value: $357,329).
Based on the latest construction permit data available from the HBW database, here is a breakdown of the total new permits, leading counties, and average values for new home construction across Texas during the month of June 2023:
Houston
As previously mentioned, Houston held the highest concentration of new residential construction activity last month having 3,277 new permits with a total value in excess of $836.5 million. The average value of new home construction was $255,284, and more than half of all new permits on record for the area originated from Harris County (2,011 permits).
Dallas
Last month, Dallas had 2,607 new residential construction permits with a value of nearly $822 million on record with HBW. The average value of new home construction continues to remain on the higher end of the spectrum in Dallas (average value: $315,293) in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and the counties with the greatest concentration of new home construction activity include Collin (895 permits) and Tarrant (913 permits).
Austin
In Austin, there were 572 new residential construction permits with a total value of approximately $204.4 million during the month of June. The average value of new home construction in the Austin area (average value: $357,329) was highest in comparison to other Texas areas reviewed, and the county with the greatest concentration of new home construction on record for the month was Travis County (246 permits).
San Antonio
Last month, there were more than 510 new residential construction permits with a total value in excess of $111 million on record for the San Antonio area. The average value of new home construction was lowest in San Antonio (average value: $217,265) in comparison to other areas reviewed, and the bulk of all new permits originated from Bexar County (320 permits).
