A review of new swimming pool construction permits in the Atlanta area for 2017
Since 2013, swimming pool construction has been steadily on the rise in the Metro Atlanta area. In 2017, the area experienced a 14% year-over-year increase in pool starts, resulting in more than 2,200 new pool permits added to the HBW database.
Counties that have seen the greatest amount of new swimming pool construction include Fulton and Cobb. Both Fulton and Cobb experienced a year-over-year increase of +13% in new pool construction, resulting in nearly 400 pool starts in Fulton and more than 300 pool starts in Cobb County last year. Other counties with higher levels of new pool construction include Cherokee (207 permits) and Gwinnett (197 permits).
When looking at the year ahead, we reviewed Metro Atlanta counties that show promising growth… For example, while Carroll County in on the lower end of total new permits, it has shown consistent and high levels of growth over the past few years. The area has gone up from a year-over-year increase of 9% in 2016 to more than 40% in 2017, and incremental increases in pool construction have been evident since 2012. Forsyth County is also on the upswing. Since 2014, there has been a slower increase in new pool construction, but in 2017, annual growth went from an average of 3% to a whopping 22% in just one year. Similar and impressive growth could also be found in Paulding County. Since 2012, the area has consistently experienced decreases in swimming pool construction until 2015, when there was a 16% year-over-year increase, and then in 2017 when there was a massive 63% year-over-year increase in pool starts.
