HBW Report: Florida New Swimming Pool Construction – October 2020

A review of the latest construction data for new swimming pool permits on record with HBW for Florida during the month of October 2020

According to the latest HBW construction data reports, there were 2,775 pool starts with a total construction value of nearly $137 million in the Sunshine State last month, reflecting a 6 percent month-over-month increase in new swimming pool construction permits.  Out of the five regions reviewed (Southwest, Tampa, Orlando, Jacksonville, Southeast), the Southwest (785 permits) carried the greatest volume of swimming pool starts, while the highest average value of new pool construction took place in Jacksonville (average value: $58,208).

Here is a closer look at new swimming pool construction activity across the state of Florida and by region for the month of October 2020:

Southwest

As previously noted, the southwestern region of Florida carried the highest concentration of new swimming pool construction activity last month, having 785 new permits with a total construction value of nearly $37 million.  The average value of new pool construction laned mid-range (average value: $46,811) in comparison to other Florida areas reviewed, and nearly half of all new construction took place in the two counties of Lee (210 permits) and Manatee (177 permits).

Out of the 150 pool contractors with new construction activity on record in the southwestern region of Florida last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Southeast

Last month, there were approximately 640 pool starts with a total construction value in excess of $26 million in the southeastern region of Florida.  The average value of new swimming pool construction was lowest in the southeast (average value: $40,709) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and the majority of all new construction activity took place in the two counties of Palm Beach (212 permits) and Miami-Dade (177 permits).

Out of the approximately 190 contractors with new swimming pool construction activity on record for the southeastern region of Florida last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Tampa

In the Tampa area, there were 610 pool starts with a total construction value of approximately $34 million last month.  The average value of new pool construction landed on the higher end of the spectrum (average value: $55,716) in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, and well more than half of all new permits originated from the counties of Hillsborough (190 permits) and Pasco (158 permits).

Out of the 130 contractors with new swimming pool construction activity on record in the Tampa area last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Orlando

Last month, there were approximately 435 pool starts with a total construction value in excess of $22 million in the Orlando area.  The average value of new swimming pool construction was $50,745, and the county with the highest concentration of new pool construction activity was Orange County, with more than 180 new permits on record with HBW for the one-month period.

Out of the nearly 110 contractors with new pool construction on record in the Orlando area last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits:

Jacksonville

Last month, the Jacksonville area carried the least amount of new swimming pool construction activity in comparison to other Florida regions reviewed, having 305 new permits with a total construction value of approximately $17.8 million.  While volume of pool starts was lower than other Florida regions, the average value of new pool construction was highest in Jacksonville (average value: $58,208) in relation to other areas reviewed, and the bulk of new permits originated from the two counties of St. Johns (118 permits) and Duval (95 permits).

Out of the more than 85 pool contractors with new construction activity on record with HBW in the Jacksonville area last month, the following ranked as the top three for total new permits for the one-month period:
